Project Advance rough sketches and concepts

So I've been working on Project Advance since about January. I started developing the idea roughly around then and it wasn't until earlier this spring that I really had a solid direction for where to take the story.

Lately I've been working on the pages in my spare time and it's cruising right along.

I decided to wait to print my sketchbook until I had the final coverart finished so that I could include it in the sketchbook. Anyway, here are some roughs and sketches for the story. I'm not really going to go into detail about all of the characters on the page, but they are all main characters :D

I'm revealing the real name of the story soon, as the fall dawns closer and closer and release of the book also gets closer (sometime this fall)

Advance Works :: Illustration Book and Win

After going back and forth about it for awhile, I decided to print up a compilation of my favorite pieces since I started working digitally.
Went through Blurb for printing, which has been very user friendly. Anyway, this past weekend I just ordered my proof for color correction and minor edits, which means in just a couple weeks you can get your own copy!

There's some preview pages of Project Advance at the end in a special section devoted to it, along with some Project Advance character design sketches straight from my sketchbook.

Once I get the proof and make final adjustments I will post a link so that you can order your own copy.
Should be just about two weeks away!

a couple of work-in-progress pages to share

Project Advance is really fun for me to work on, and I want that lightheartedness to come across.
Establishing that carefree part of it carries a counterbalance; a somber thread. It's at the beginning of the story that we are introduced to it.
Here is the first page and a couple panels from page 2... both in varying stages of refinement.

There aren't any words yet because I'm adding them separately in illustrator.
You can immediately see an Atlanta landmark, which is Grady Memorial, as a centerpiece of this page.

ranting reboot

I totally did a complete reboot of my blog here...
I just need a quick and efficient way to post some stuff I've been working on.

ShadowLands is on hold indefinitely and I've started a new project in the meantime.
An aspect of it I'm really excited about it is it takes place where I live now, in Atlanta. It's the first time I've purposefully gone out looking for locations in the real world to put in a comic story. So far it's turning out pretty sweet!

At my website you can see one of the first pieces of concept art I did for the project which is the main character, Christopher. Here are a couple other pieces of concept art showing some of the stylistic approaches I've been considering.

The grassy looking one is an abandoned train station.
I don't know if the detail will come through in this post or not, but theres supposed to be moss and vines all over the structure. It's an exciting part of the story when Christopher arrives here!

The black and white image is where I was kind of testing the style for the bulk of the story content. I wanted there to be kind of a nostalgic feel to it, so I am using a film grain and a subdued pallette. Not sure if this is what will remain yet.
